About CNU Foundations

CNU Foundations work closely with Christopher Newport University leadership to provide support and guidance in the areas of property acquisition, investment management, and good stewardship of the generosity of the local community and other benefactors. Our mission is to help foster growth and forge leaders from the students at the University. We currently oversee the Education Foundation, the Real Estate Foundation, the Audit Committee, and the Investment Committee.

Education Foundation

The Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that functions as a charitable foundation to assist, support, and foster the mission of CNU. We accomplish this by:

Participating in the formulation of strategies to obtain charitable contributions and promoting and monitoring those strategies in conjunction with University Advancement and in consultation with the president and other leaders.

Establishing the investment policy of the Foundation, selecting the fund manager, and monitoring the performance of investments.

Informing and educating potential donors and supporters regarding the mission and needs of Christopher Newport.

Promoting planned charitable gifts.

Promoting proper donor stewardship.

Rendering financial assistance.

Real Estate Foundation

The Real Estate Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization that is set up to assist the mission of Christopher Newport University. We accomplish our mission by:

Functioning as a holding company and manager of off-campus properties.

Advising University leadership in the securing of real estate for investment purposes.

Providing real estate information in support of the growth and growth management strategies of the University.

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee is responsible for the oversight of the financial reporting process. The committee is also responsible for selecting an independent auditor and receiving their audit results.

Investment Committee

The Investment Committee is responsible for overseeing the foundation’s financial assets.
